The benefits of MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology has been well documented in a number of ground-based communication applications. But MIMO is showing promising results promising results in air-to-ground and air-to-air applications as well.

Tier 1 and 2 UAVs typically use line-of-sight (LOS) communications links to provide live transmission of video, command and control (C2), and telemetry to/and from the operator and other ground based assets. Traditionally, separate links are used for video and data, and the links tend to have performance issues when flying at lower altitude in high scatter environments and non-line-of-sight (NLOS).
