Silvus Technologies... A World-Class Team of Experts

Industry leaders, handpicked for the excellence they provide in their areas of core competencies

Babak Daneshrad, PhD - Chairman & Founder
A scientist with demonstrated early-stage company experience, Dr. Daneshrad has been a professor with the UCLA Electrical Engineering Department since 1996. He is viewed as a thought-leader in his field of expertise,  and is well-published in the area of wireless communications with an emphasis on experimental multi-antenna systems. Prior to arriving at UCLA he was with AT&T Bell Labs and was focused on broadband wireless data communications. In 2001, he co-founded Innovics Wireless, raising $14 million in venture capital to develop the first multi-antenna, diversity-enabled WCDMA-3G mobile terminal ASIC. In 2004 he co-founded Silvus technologies with a vision of manufacturing cost-effective MIMO solutions that  could deliver communications to the  most harsh and demanding  environments.

Dr. Daneshrad obtained his PhD in electrical engineering from the Integrated Circuits and Systems Lab of UCLA in 1993. He obtained his MEng and BEng (honors) degrees from McGill University in 1988 and 1986 respectively.

Michael Fitz, PhD - CTO
Dr. Fitz has three decades of experience in wireless communication systems in both academia and in the private sector.  Dr. Fitz's is a recognized technical innovator in the broad area of wireless systems and statistical communication theory. He was elected a Fellow of the IEEE, has authored over 150 journal and conference papers, contributed a chapter to three edited books, and solely authored the textbook “Fundamentals of Communication Systems.” Dr. Fitz was active in experimental MIMO wireless communications in academia and participated in commercialization of multiple antenna technology for both land mobile paging and for wireless local area networks.  Dr. Fitz was a pioneer is MIMO modulation and channel estimation. Dr. Fitz was awarded the 2001 IEEE Communications Society Leonard G. Abraham Prize Paper Award in the Field of Communications Systems for his work on space-time signaling and channel modeling.

Dr. Fitz received his B.E.E. degree from the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio, in 1983 and his MS and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California in 1984 and 1989, respectively. Before working at Silvus Technologies Dr. Fitz has held several tenured positions in academia and leadership positions in industry with his most recent being as a full professor at the University of California Los Angeles, the Waveforms and Components Business Area Lead at TrellisWare Technologies, and as an Engineering Fellow and Advanced Systems Manager at Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach.

Weijun Zhu - VP of Engineering
After graduating with an MSEE degree from Ohio State University, Weijun Zhu worked as a research staff member in the E.E. department at Ohio State University from 2001 ~ 2002, where he successfully led the effort of developing  a narrowband wireless networking test bed that supports both infrastructure mode and ad-hoc mode. Weijun then spent three years as a research staff member designing and implementing a 3x4 narrowband MIMO test bed and a 4x4 wideband MIMO-OFDM test bed in the UCLA E.E. department. With these test beds, he successfully field tested numerous MIMO coding and spatial multiplexing schemes. After joining Silvus in 2005 as a communication system engineer, he quickly became the technical lead for Silvus’s R&D effort and product development. At Silvus, Weijun successfully led the effort of fulfilling the requirement of the $15M DARPA MNM contract, designing and delivering a synthesizable 802.11n IP to multiple customers, and developing the StreamCaster mesh networking radio product series.

Prior to coming to the US, Weijun obtained a BS and an MSEE degree both from Southeast University in China. He also worked at HP-Scitech (now part of Agilent) developing W-CDMA libraries for Agilent Advanced Design System from 1997 to 1998.

Jimi Henderson - VP of Sales
Enlisted in 1999 as a Satellite, Wideband, and Telemetry Systems Technician in the United States Air Force, Jimi Henderson operated and maintained a variety of advanced digital communications systems, gaining years of valuable working knowledge from a user's perspective.

After his release in 2004, Jimi worked as a Production Technician at Global Microwave Systems, Inc. and year later was promoted to Test Supervisor. In this role he also acted as the company's main point of contact for technical support and repairs.

In 2008, Jimi transferred to GMS' sales department, where he would quickly rise to the position of Sales and Marketing Manager. After GMS was acquired by Cobham PLC, Jimi was appointed as Director of Sales for the Broadcast, Airborne, and Unmanned Systems markets, leading the business through a time of unprecedented growth.
